What Other Regulations Are There In Relation To Patient Safety? The Medical council have published position papers on dose constraints for helpers and research exposures. These, along with a number of other relevant Medical Council publications are listed on the MERU website. The Dental Council also have a document on dose constraints. This and other relevant Dental Council publications can be found on the Dental Council website.

In the case of occupational health exposures, under article 9 of S.I. 478, pre-employment x-rays are not permitted, unless they have been approved by the Health & Safety Authority. In general, all prescriptions for radiological examinations must be clinically indicated following an examination of the patient. Exposures on medico-legal grounds (article 8) may be performed only on foot of a written direction from the courts, and health screening programmes (article 7.6) may only be undertaken with the prior consent of the Minister for Health & Children.
