What Other Regulations Are There In Relation To Patient Safety?
The Medical council have published position papers on dose constraints for helpers and research exposures. In the case of occupational health exposures, under article 9 of S.I. 478, pre-employment x-rays are not permitted, unless they have been approved by the Health & Safety Authority. In general, all prescriptions for radiological examinations must be clinically indicated following an examination of the patient. Exposures on medico-legal grounds (article 8) may be performed only on foot of a written direction from the courts, and health screening programmes (article 7.6) may only be undertaken with the prior consent of the Minister for Health & Children.
